What is a Coxswain?
The coxswain (pronounced "COX-en") is the athlete who steers the boat and coordinates the power and rhythm of the rowers. Often called the "cox," they face forward and are responsible for race strategy, steering, motivation, and making real-time tactical decisions during races. Despite being the smallest person in the boat, the coxswain has one of the most critical roles — they are the eyes, ears, and voice of the crew.

Looking Ahead: Stanford
Evie will be joining the Stanford Cardinal Women's Rowing team in Fall 2026 as a coxswain. Stanford has one of the premier collegiate rowing programs in the country, competing in the Pac-12 Conference and regularly contending at the NCAA Championships.
Stanford Women's Rowing has produced Olympic athletes and national champions, making it an incredible opportunity for the next chapter of Evie's rowing career.
